Stephen Richards receives the Allan Wilson Memorial Trophy for SELOC Volunteer Of The Year, at the prizegiving after the SELOC Christmas Lunch. Of the 10 nominees, Stephen came out top, in recognition of his contribution over the year, not only in organising and planning events in the Wigan side of our area but especially for the substantial effort in thoroughly updating a large part of the Clowbridge map including the fast maturing wooded areas.

Thirty two SELOC members and guests had a blast around Alexandra Park, Oldham, in the SELOC Christmas event.   The two-part score saw runners coming into the map distribution point during part A, asking for up to 5 part B sectional maps for the bonus 'quiz-O' controls, all within this small and very well-kept Victorian urban park.

Prize-winners from the on-the-day results were:

   1st               Ed Mellor

   2nd              John Britton

   3rd               Mark Seddon

   1st female    Emily Britton

   1st Junior     Josh Sammon

Xmas tree

Tuesday December 27th

Once again, there will be informal Christmas Fun Score event, this year at Alexandra Park, Oldham.

Alexandra Park is a well-renovated Victorian town park. The GMOA map is at a scale of 1:3000.

Assembly from 10:15 is on the South side of the park near a small car park on Kings Road at grid reference SD823279 (nearest postcode OL8 2BH is within the park)

Multiple starts from 10:30 to 10:45 and a maximum time limit of 40 minutes

The score format will be a combination of master controls with 'quiz-O' extensions for bonus control points; bring a pencil for your Street-O style answers

Participants take part at own risk and are responsible for their own safety; snow is possible but not guaranteed for a third year running!

Training Day for South Lancs Junior Squad

E-mail Print

Training Day for the South Lancs Junior Squad plus families.

I am looking to run a training day on the 24th October for Junior Squad regulars plus new members and families. I am proposing to hold it at Beacon Fell for a change as it has a cafe and toilets.

The training will be varied to suit all those who come. I will be looking to start around 10.30 and finishing at 3.30 at the latest. If there is the demand I will be taking a minibus from Rossendale.

In the past these days have proved very enjoyable for all those who have taken part both juniors and parents. If you have not been before and want to come please and your parents do NOT want to stay please go to the PFO website juniors page and print off + fill in the medical form.

There is no cost to the day but you will need food and drink or some money to buy something at the cafe. You will need warm and waterproof clothing plus a change of clothes. Please can you contact me ASAP so that I know whether to borrow the mini bus.

I am hoping for a good turn out as there may well be a photographer taking pictures for the British Orienteering brochures.
