Car Sharing Proposal

For some time now I've considered the idea of setting up an 'O' car sharing scheme. I’m not 100% clear in my own mind exactly how it would work, but with the horrific increase in fuel prices, something like this is becoming essential.

As many of you know I am a keen orienteer and compete regularly. So I suppose it makes sense for me to volunteer to do the organisation bit….so, yes I will!

My ideas so far are:

  1. Those interested in the principle need to contact me (phone 0161 723 2042 or E-mail tonydavies9@sky.com). I realise, for some, it may only be an odd occasion – no problem.
  2. Let me know how many places you would generally have available in your car and give some thought to some meeting place(s), near to main roads or motorways, where cars can be parked safely & securely. I do not expect the drivers to be driving around the country picking everybody up.
  3. I don’t see any reason why non-drivers and other ‘O’ club members couldn’t be made welcome.
  4. I would need to know as early as possible, who is interested in a particular event, and whether they are prepared to drive. Obviously, I would rotate the driving. With National and Regional events, that could be at pre-entry date. District events – say by about Tuesday.
  5. I’m sure the odd late request could be fitted in.
  6. I would then work out the best plan, and let everyone know (phone or E-mail).
  7. I think we need to adopt a standard start time, say ‘mid’ for all.
  8. All entries to be done by the individual
  9. Multi-day events may present too many problems with accommodation issues.
  10. Fuel costs would be split between the occupants.

I would welcome any comments or ideas, as I’m sure there will be some pitfalls. We can only give it a try.
