News - July 2017

Well, what a month June 2017 was for SELOC!  All we did was:

- featured extensively in a BBC documentary of orienteering at MediaCityUK

- staged the North West Sprint Orienteering Championships at Sklemersdale

- staged the UK Urban League at Horwich Festival of Racing

- Champions at the Harvester B Class Handicap Trophy in the Lake District.

Here is the winning team from the Harvester, a five person relay starting at midnight on the hillside in the Lake District.  The first two legs are run in the dark with headtorches, whilst later runners get the advantage of a little sleep and daylight.

SELOC won the Harvester A class back in 1990 after coming 3rd the previous year.  Finally we are back in the prizes - the winning team was made up of Cath Wilson, Steve Wilson, Stephen Richards, Tony Davies and Kevan Latham won the B class Handicap Trophy. A great achievement for a small club like SELOC and the individuals concerned.  Next year it will be staged again on the last weekend in June 2018, so mark it down in your diary and keep it free so that you can put your names forward to run in the SELOC teams for next years event.

So I guess we can expect July to be a little quieter but we still have the following:

- Several club members competing in Lakeland Saunders Mountain Marathon, including Mark and Robert father and son pairing.

- Our own event at Amberswood, Wigan on Saturday 15 July

- British Mixed Sprint Relays at Ormskirk on Sunday 16 July.

Results From the Lakeland Saunders Mountain Marathon are in...

SELOC were well represented with Josie Greenhalgh, Albert Sunter and a new potential future champion team of Mark and Robert Seddon who came in as first generation team in the Harter Fell class and a fantastic 3rd overall out of 90+ teams, with the 4th ranked team a long way back.  Kevan Latham along with team mate Sian Calow of Dee Orienteers also competed in the Harter Fell class and came 31st overall. So a huge congratulations to all the competitors. The results can be found at The next Mountain Marathon will be the ROC ( formally the RAB) in September.
