201707 - Amberswood

Thanks to those that turned up to Amberswood on Saturday. This is a great area which can be quite technical in places.

With another event in Warrington, turn out wasn't going to be high.

Time spent planning the NW Sprint Champs came to a scorching head today, so I hope you enjoyed the weather;  there were certainly some red faces at the finish!  While the logistics of preparing the Prologue and Final on adjacent areas limited my chance of interaction with competitors, I was pleased to receive some positive feedback from those I did spend a moment with. It was clear that different people had coped, or not, differently with some of the route choice and other Sprint concentration challenges I had tried to set.

The opportunity arising from use of a brand new area will always add unknown factors and there were perhaps some we did not anticipate; these will be reviewed to learn for the future.

My thanks are due greatly to Stephen, George and all the SELOC and local volunteer helpers without whom the event today would not have been possible. Thank you!

BBC Filming at MediaCityUK, 14 June 2017

SELOC were approached by BOF a few weeks ago to see if we could help put on a small(ish) test event that could be filmed by the BBC and put out in conjunction with the British Orienteering 50th Birthday this weekend.  We worked with BOF to bring together a highly successful evening, with 20 orienteers competing against the BBCs Mike Bushell (M50).  A big thanks to Steve Round who did much of the planning and organising.

The 3 minute film will be part of the BBC Breakfast show on Saturday 17th June between 6am and 9am.

Results from tonight are here.

Longsight Park, 29 April 2017

Here are the results from the race today in Longsight Park, Harwood in Bolton.  Great to have the company of several families - there was plenty of competition and fun on the junior courses (and for Eric Burton's car keys!!).

The sun was shining on our use of this great area for the first time in many years. We managed to avoid annoying any golfers. However, we did unfortunately have one of our control boxes stolen :(

Next SELOC races will be the SELOC Sprints Weekend.  Check out the flyer for more details.
