In Saturday\u2019s\nevent on some steepish fellside at Caw, between Coniston and Broughton, he ran\nthe Short Brown course, finishing in 61<sup>st<\/sup> spot. Sunday saw everyone\nmove a little further away up the Duddon Valley to the technically demanding\nStickle Pike where Kev ran the Blue course and placed 70<sup>th<\/sup>=.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paul Turner travelled much\nfurther afield to combine a weekend break with the renowned urban event in\nPorto, Portugal. That also gave a golden opportunity to do a bit of\nreconnaissance on what\u2019s on offer at a European Cities Tour race prior to\nSELOC\u2019s own contribution to that Tour (League) at Liverpool in October, where\nhe is planning the courses. He skipped Friday night\u2019s sprint event but had a\ngood run in Saturday\u2019s daytime sprint race, taking 14<sup>th<\/sup> spot, before\ngoing even better to finish in 10<sup>th<\/sup> place in a larger field at\nSunday\u2019s full length urban race around the hilly city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What did everyone else get up to\nif they weren\u2019t orienteering?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Upcoming Events<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tomorrow (Tuesday 21 May) sees the\nsecond of SROC\u2019s summer sprint series with an event in Salt Ayre, Lancaster or\nalternatively MDOC have an introductory event at Lyme Park, near Disley the\nsame night. You could also try out PFO\u2019s daytime introductory event at Towneley\nPark, Burnley, that same morning if you were looking to cram in as much as\npossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wednesday 22<sup>nd<\/sup> brings\nanother of DEE\u2019s well-attended midweek events, this time at Bryn Alyn near Mold\nfor forest lovers, or the penultimate race in AIRE\u2019s Spring Sprint League in\nAdel Village, in urban terrain with parkland on the northern outskirts of\nLeeds. Or for a tougher run with a score format, there\u2019s the final event in\nWarrior\u2019s Battleaxe series near Coniston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With another bank holiday next\nweekend, the West Midlands clubs have their Springtime in Shropshire weekend\ncomprising a trio of events in a beautiful part of the country. This year\u2019s\nevent incorporates an urban race in Shrewsbury on Saturday followed by the Midlands\nChamps on Brown Clee Hill on Sunday with it all rounded off by a National event\non slopes of The Wrekin, a prominent hill near Telford, on Monday. Pre-entries have\nclosed but there is some entry on the day each day. Lovers of ancient cathedral\ncities may prefer Yorkshire\u2019s usual urban offering at this time of year,\nfirstly from CLARO in Ripon city centre on Sunday 25<sup>th<\/sup> followed by\nEBOR\u2019s annual event around the narrow lanes and alleyways of York city centre\non Bank Holiday Monday \u2013 always a good experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Things quieten down a bit after\nthat, with the final of AIRE\u2019s Spring Sprint League at Gledhow Valley, Leeds on\nWednesday 29 May in a mix of wooded and urban landscapes. Early adopters of new\ntechnologies might want to join MDOC at Chorlton Water Park on Saturday 1 June where\nthey are running another \u201cO-on-an-App\u201d event, using mobile \u2018phone technology.
