Unfortunately, due to the poor weather this week, the rain overnight tonight, and the predicted high winds for tomorrow afternoon/evening we have taken the decision to cancel this event on safety grounds.

The ground is already sodden, the slopes are extremely slippery, and the heightened risk of falling/broken branches from already storm damaged trees is too much of a safety risk for both the competitors and the event volunteers.

Don’t worry, you will get to run this lovely country park in next seasons Night League.

Night event at Tandle Hill Country Park. This is the final event in the North West Night League for this season 2019-2020 and your last chance to earn points.

Tandle Hill Country Park consists of approximately 110 acres, a combination of beech woodland and open grassland. The park contains a countryside centre, picnic areas, children’s play area and numerous trails and paths. The open woodland is some of the most pleasant runnable forest you will find – if it were a bit bigger it would one of the UK’s premier orienteering venues!

Location: Tandle Hill Road, Royton, OL2 5UX. Parking is at the end of the road.

Registration & Starts

Registration is in front of the cafe adjacent to the car park (turn right as you come into the park)

Registration from 6.00pm with starts between 6:30pm and 7:30pm

Entry fees:          Adults £6; Juniors £3.

Courses available

Orange: Length 2.2km, Climb 115m, 12 Controls

Green: Length 2.9km, Climb 200m, 15 Controls

Blue: Length 4.3km, Climb 280m, 17 Controls

Safety Alerts

Ground Conditions: There are likely to be many slipping hazards especially on soil based steep slopes which are extremely wet and may be covered with leaves; most minor paths are muddy and/or marshy.

Please take care on minor paths for tripping hazards as there are many tree roots exposed above ground. As always please pay attention for low hanging branches.

Special Notes for Green and Blue Course Competitors

Both the Green and Blue Courses have one special item control described with the symbol  O, this is a Wooden Hide or as the Controller described it, a Neanderthal Hunting Lodge!

The Blue course is a double sided map. The side marked ‘1’ shows the course from Start to Control No9; the side marked ‘2’ shows the course from Control Point 9 to the Finish. Maps will be facing with Side 1 upwards when you take them from the box. However, please check the side number when you begin.
