SELOC is excited to announce our first event of 2021. We are hosting a Street O event in Prestwich on Tuesday 13th April. Using another new area and Open Orienteering Map, Prestwich provides a vast number of route choices separated by a railway line with multiple crossing points and with a deceiving gradient in places, which will provide a great run.

Everyone will need to pre-enter, selecting your start time and follow the Covid briefing and code of conduct below.

Prestwich Square, Outside Greggs, 33 Fairfax Rd, Prestwich, Manchester M25 1AY

The new start is 50m away from the previously published start area outside Costa. Parking is available immediately next to the start/ finish area.

Prestwich Metrolink station is approx. 50m from the start/ finish area.

Parking:

• Limited on the roads near the start. But 3-hour free parking is available at Tesco’s which is a 350m walk away. Tesco’s is a camera controlled car park so don’t go over the three hours.
• Or Fairfax Road car park 200m away. (Free parking)
• Or Rectory Lane which is next to the start/ finish and by the Prestwich Metro link station. (Half of the car park is a COVID walk in area)
• DO NOT park in the Farmfoods car park by Prestwich Square. This has a one-hour limit and is camera controlled. Potential fee of £75.

Terrain:

Prestwich and its surrounding area with an extensive path and road network providing multiple route and decision choices. There are also a few deceiving hills dotted around the area.

Facilities: None at the start/ finish area. But there are customer toilets at Tesco’s 350m away.

Timings: Starts from 1745-1915

Courses: 

Score event, 60 or 75 minute options.

Controls will be items of street furniture from which you will record an answer on your separate answer sheet. Each control will have a points value from 20 to 70, which is the first digit of the control number multiplied by 10.

SI dibbers will be used to record start and finish time, these can be hired as part of the entry process.

Penalties for being late are 1 point per 3 seconds or part of.

Entries and Fees:

All competitors must pre-enter via Fabian4.

There will be no Entry on the Day.

We are pleased to be able to remove the restrictions on entries to local club members only. Anybody can now enter, so spread the word.

Equipment:

You will need:

• Pencil – to record your answers at each control
• Headtorch – to see where you’re going. Light should be good to about 20:15.
• Stopwatch – to minimise your chance of being late back
• High visibility top/vest – so you can be seen
• Dibber (if you have one) – to record your start/finish time (you can hire one when you enter if you don’t have one)

First Aid:

A first aid kit will be available but competitors should try to treat any injuries themselves with guidance from a first aider if necessary.
