Successes
Our juniors were the most active members over the weekend, competing in the British Schools Champs at Witton Park, Blackburn, on Sunday. Members of SELOC Facebook Group will already have seen Caroline Barcham’s report but for those seeing this on the web page it was Theo Middleton who had the best result, taking home a bronze medal from the Boys year 7 race. Robert Seddon was 8th in boys year 11, Lucy Seddon 16th in girls year 9 and Adam Thetford 22nd in boys year 8. Adam’s Yr 8 boys school team (led by PFO’s Tom Grey) were 3rd in their first competition.
Many of our seniors were there helping, backing up the excellent work done by Stephen Richards in planning all the courses after eventually finding a venue that could host the specialist demands of this event. Well done to competitors and thanks to the helpers.
Away from Witton Park, Ed Mellor was at AIRE’s Roundwood Park event, where he treated himself to a shorter run than usual on the Green course, finishing 12th. Kev Latham opted for something more gruelling with 3 hours running at the Peak Raid mini mountain marathon style score event at Glossop, finishing in 83rd place overall but 7th M60. Our fell runners were presumably still recovering from the Tour of Pendle race on Saturday, but no results seen as yet.
Midweek, Albert Sunter and Jordan were the only SELOC representatives at MDOC’s midweek Street League event, where they finished 39th overall. For those wondering, Paul Turner was at the club committee meeting and couldn’t find a way to fit both events in.
Upcoming Events
Wednesday night, 21 November, there’s an event in the SROC Street League event in Helmshore, put on by our own Steve Wilson. This is also the only Street League event in the SELOC Club League (which covers all styles of event) and is also the closest street event to home for most of us, so get out there and give it a go if you’ve not tried this informal and sociable format. Details easily found via SROC website.
Then on Saturday 24 November we have the first event in the 2018/19 North West Night League (again sponsored by Bright Bike Lights) with SROC’s event at Low Wood, near Kendal. See the news page if you are interested in upgrading your lighting equipment for the coming season. Earlier that day, MDOC have a Park & Urban format at Chorlton while PFO stage their Club Champs with a score event at Peel Park, Accrington, to which other clubs are invited.
Sunday 25 November has CLARO’s regional event on an interesting new area of large rocky outcrops near Harrogate (which sounds very similar to their tricky Brimham Rocks area) or a Cumbrian Galoppen event put on by WCOC at Leap’s Beck, near Ennerdale. Later that week it is MDOC’s turn to stage their Street League – Altrincham on Tuesday night (29th) for those interested.
Club League is approaching the point where those who’ve not yet started but want to get the maximum number of qualifying events before this year’s fixtures conclude will have to get out there. Final results to be announced at SELOC Christmas event – details coming soon.
