SELOC Successes
In contrast to last week, not very many events on within range this week, maybe due to it being Spring Bank Holiday and school half term. Paul Turner was our only member to get a race, heading over to Rotherham on Sunday to compete in SYO’s Yorkshire Urban league event where he claimed 8th spot in the Men’s SuperVets class. There may also have been some members out on Saturday taking part in MDOC’s “O-on-an-App” event at Chorlton Water Park, but not managed to find any results published yet – must be hidden in a different cloud somewhere!
Upcoming Events
Things start to get busier again this coming week. The next in SROC’s Summer Sprint series is at Astley Park on Tuesday 4 June, hopefully taking in the complex housing estate. Unfortunately that clashes with a sprint from MDOC at Torkington Park, Hazel Grove on the same night. PFO get an Evening Series under way the following night at Marl Pits, Rawtenstall, as do LOC with a Middle Series kicking off at Bell Wood, Ulverston.
That should set everyone up nicely for a quality weekend. OD have 2 days of urban racing, first at Warwick University and then around Coventry City Centre for UK Urban League points. Alternatively, WCOC host a Cumbrian Galoppen event at Threlkeld Knotts, near Keswick, on Sunday 9th. Midweek sees the second of PFO’s Evening Series at Gawthorpe, MDOC’s second Countryside Score event near Knutsford or a Summer Sprint League from AIRE in Leeds all on Wednesday 12June.
We then come to SELOC’s own Horwich Festival of Racing event, this year incorporating the NWOA Sprint Champs, on Sunday 16 June. Event organisers Kev Latham and Tony Varley are seeking helpers for that, so save them the trouble of chasing and volunteer your services now. With enough helpers everyone wanting a run should be able to get one, and with a 50% discount on fees for helping. Pre-entries close this coming Sunday, 9 June, so contact Kev or Tony for the discount code. There will also be entries on the day while maps are available.
The following weekend see Yorkshire following the NWOA lead with their Sprint Championships staged by HALO in Gainsborough on Saturday 22nd and paired with a Middle Distance race the same day. Then East Midlands join the fun by staging their Sprint Champs at Newark on the Sunday to make an appealing weekend. Equally appealing but a bit further away is the usually very well organised and planned Sprint Scotland weekend with 3 events on offer at Bo’ness, near Edinburgh.
To finish off June, EBOR have a regional event between Selby and York on Sunday 30 June, though you’ll need full leg protection at this time of year as their woods can be a bit brambly.
