The first SELOC event of the autumn/ winter programme is here and takes place at Alexandra Park, Oldham on Saturday 18^th September.

Originally scheduled for February 2020, but due to weather and not the other thing we don’t want to mention, it’s been eagerly awaiting it’s turn.

Alexandra Park is a public park in Oldham, Greater Manchester. It was created in response to the Lancashire Cotton Famine of 1861–1865 as an attempt to keep local textile workers employed.

During its history it has had a “refreshment room”, a boating lake (constructed in 1903) and been the site of statues honouring local dignitaries. A number of structures in the park are grade II listed including ornamental features, buildings and statues.

The park now has a lovely café (the Boathouse Café) outside which we will be based. Please support this local resource.

For Orienteering it offers a picturesque park, and the opportunity to test your skills whether you’re a beginner or experienced Orienteer.

Parking:

If it is full, please park on Kings Road. Follow signs and walk along the side of the boating lake (adjacent to Kings Road) to get to the start.

Terrain: A mixture of formal park and open grassland.

Map: 1:4,000 scale.

Facilities: Boathouse café for refreshments, toilets TBC.

Timings: Starts from 1200-1400. Courses close 1530.

Start: The start will be close to the Boathouse Café.

Light Green (approx 3.5 km)

Orange (approx 2 km)

Yellow (approx 1.2 km)

There will be very limited Entry on the Day, so secure your place through Fabian4 early.

A first aid kit will be available but competitors should try to treat any injuries themselves with guidance from a first aider if necessary.
