This is the first event in the eagerly awaited return of the North West Night League for the season 2021-2022, and this SELOC event and location was originally planned to be run in the 2019-20 season but storms and Covid laid waste to our plans. We hope you enjoy the courses and fingers crossed the weather will be clear on the night as this will afford all competitors at least two opportunities to view the night skyline of Manchester city centre.

Tandle Hill Country Park is located on the lower foothills of the West side of the Pennines and has a mixture of mature woodland and open grassland with a wide panorama of the surrounding countryside. This is well worth a walk to the top of the hills. There are good path networks interspersed throughout the park.

Location:

Car park at the end of Tandle Hill Road, Oldham, OL2 5UX. The park is signposted off the A671.

Parking:

There is a car park at the end of Tandle Hill Road.

If it is full, please park on Tandle Hill Road itself where there is plenty of space

Terrain: A mixture of mostly woodland and open grassland set amongst hills and valleys.

Map: The map is at a scale of 1:5000. Thanks to Stephen Richards (SELOC) for recent resurvey and updates to the map.

Facilities: The café and toilets will not be open at this time.

Timings: Starts will commence from 5:30pm and continue until 7:00pm. Courses close at 8:00pm. It will be a punching Start.

Start/Finish:

The Start and Finish are within 50m of the Car Park. The registration (inquiries and dibber hire pick up only) and the Download are situated within the Car Park. Warm ups should be conducted in the car park and along the road immediately outside the entrance to the car park. You should only enter the park on your way to the Start which will be signposted and taped.

Courses: 

Orange Course – 2.2Km, 115m climb, 12 Controls

Green Course – 2.8Km, 220m climb, 14 Controls

Blue Course –  4.4Km, 330m climb, 19 Controls

Entries and Fees:

Entries will be via Fabian4. Online entries will close at 23:59pm Thursday 18th November.

Please note that there will be NO EOD for this event.

Adults £6; Juniors £3; Dibber Hire £1.00 but £40 if lost.

First Aid:

A first aid kit will be available but competitors should try to treat any injuries themselves with guidance from a first aider if necessary.

Special Notes for Green and Blue Course Competitors

Both the Green and Blue Courses have one special item control described with the symbol O, this is a Wooden Hide or as the Controller described it, a Neanderthal Hunting Lodge!

The Blue course is a double sided map. The side marked ‘1’ shows the course from Start to Control Point No 10; the side marked ‘2’ shows the course from Control Point No 10 to the Finish. Maps will be facing with Side 1 upwards when you take them from the box. However, please check the side number when you begin.

Safety Alerts

Ground Conditions: There are likely to be many slipping hazards especially on soil based steep slopes which are extremely wet and may be covered with leaves; most minor paths are muddy and/or marshy.

Please take care on minor paths for tripping hazards as there are many tree roots exposed above ground. As always please pay attention for low hanging branches when in the wooded areas.

Please also take care when traversing open ground as there are a number of rabbit holes particularly on the south western facing slopes of the area and lots of broken branches in the wooded areas.

Streams in the area can be difficult to cross in some places due to high, slippy banks, therefore please use caution when approaching streams where there are no marked bridges in the vicinity.
