Planners Comments

Early rain, which had dampened preparations, fortunately eased for most of your runs. The bus transportation to the Far Start seemed to work well, although it took time to entice one busload out of the shelter when they arrived during another heavy shower.

Extensive early mapping efforts had extended the previous map to create a very large potential area. After some compromises, planning options reduced this to 3 sub-areas with the longer courses to start at the Museum and Art Gallery into Peel Park and the University campus. After negotiating a choice of underpasses, all courses from there then had a timed-out crossing at the major junction but any spare time spent there to plan ahead was limited by the following map exchange. It was good to see the planned alternative route choices being used and, in some cases, others being found that perhaps hadn’t been expected!

There was some very close racing, not least with the head-to-head resulting at the top of the Men’s Open field. The European flavour of the City Race was highlighted by a one-two for Spain in the Men’s Veterans’ class.

With apologies, unfortunately despite confirmatory checks in the morning, a gate that was to be specially opened from 10:00, was then confused with another unmapped gate a short distance away. Routegadget analysis suggests that, while not many took this route choice, those that did met with various outcomes and a few lost significant time such that the legs were voided on the day.

All results have been posted to CRET, BOF, UKUL and NWUL sites.

It was good to see quite a few competitors enjoying the facilities at MediaCityUK and the Quays after their runs. There was also good feedback on a first experience of using a Metrolink tram from the Park & Ride.

Thanks go to: Caroline for organising, Graham for controlling, Stephen and Dean for mapping, Steve for arranging numerous permissions. Matt for IT, Peter for weekend co-ordination, Eddie of MDOCPrint and also to the many on-the day helpers being members of SELOC with much-appreciated support from our neighbouring clubs, particularly PFO and DEE.

Map Exchange: Anyone on course 1,2 or 3 who didn’t collect their part 1 map at download and would like it, please contact info@seloc.org.uk
