SELOC Successes
A quiet weekend locally with few events on because of the clash with the CompassSport Cup Final in the south east. The fixture list is always kept clear initially for this and clubs that qualify for the final want as many members as possible to compete so don’t organise any events of their own that weekend. SELOC unfortunately didn’t make it to the Final this year despite our best efforts up at BL’s event on the northern fells of Cumbria back in March.
But our neighbours at PFO weren’t at the Final either so were able to stage a regional event at Dean Clough, near Great Harwood, on Sunday which was the biggest in reasonable range this Sunday. Michael Hood had by far the best run for SELOC, taking 2nd place on the Blue Course to continue his recent good form that he puts down to losing a few pounds. Kev Latham and Steve Round were both at the opposite end of the results, with Kev tackling the long Brown course to finish 20th, no doubt clocking up some late training on boggy moorland ready for next weekend’s Original Mountain Marathon. Steve ran his longest course for some time, the Short Blue which looked only 200m longer than his usual Green measured on a straight line basis – but that didn’t reflect the run round the reservoir! He finished just off the bottom of the results in 16th spot.
The previous day, Lee Ward was our only competitor at MDOC’s Bramhall Park event, where he ran the popular 45 minute score class, finishing in 49th place against some tough competition.
Upcoming Events
SELOC’s next Saturday series gets underway on 2 November in Nuttall Park, Ramsbottom that will include a very technical Norwegian-style course to maximise use of the area. That’s followed on 16 November with an event amongst the industrial archaeology at the Burrs Country Park just outside Bury town centre.
Addicts can almost stop counting down the days until the start of SROC’s night street score league as it gets under way on Wednesday 23 October in Bamber Bridge, near Preston.
SELOC also have a Tuesday series going with Age Concern Bolton, with the final short series of 3 events in Leverhulme Park starting 29 October if anyone can make it.
