SELOC Successes

As foretold in these pages last week, fewer midweek events on offer locally at this stage of the summer. But fortunately EPOC had a weekend just next door, with a pair of sprint races in Mytholmroyd on Saturday followed by a full-length urban containing lots more climb than usual around Hebden Bridge on Sunday. These provided the weekly orienteering fix for a good number of SELOC members.

However, results compilation for Saturday suffered from computer problems that will require a deal of hard work for EPOC’s IT team before they can be published, so we can’t report them here. There will be a knock-on impact on the update to the SELOC League table too. But that does leave us plenty of space to list all SELOC results for Sunday in full. Although the old folks seem to have suffered an unusually large proportion of mispunches and injuries, the juniors put in some good results:

Upcoming Events

A quiet couple of weeks in prospect with much of the orienteering world, including a good number of SELOC members, in Scotland for the Scottish 6Days event over the week 28 July to 3 August. Holidays then tend to diminish activity in August, though there are some low-key events on for those willing to travel midweek or weekend.

The next large event within travelling range is the first in the series of 12 Race the Castles events over 9 days in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, commencing 18 August and culminating in Scarborough with the White Rose event over August bank holiday weekend. Not all the venues still have castles, and I gather that one may well be inflated on the day after an enforced change of plans! But there are some genuine stone castles on offer in some very attractive towns, so check out https://racethecastles2019.com for details. As yet, there doesn’t seem to be an overall scoring system for the series, but it will be a fun set of decent events regardless, with UK O League points available at two of them and UK Urban League points on top at one of those.
